Description
Prayer can change your life – but prayer alone is not enough. It must be accompanied by an inner belief, and expectancy, a feeling that there will be an answer. In other words, we must learn to follow the advice and teaching of Jesus – “Pray believing!” To pray and then doubt that God’s infinite love and power will manifest itself, in the form of our desire for a better life, simply means that the prayer is a hopeful act instead of a deep conviction. Throughout the recorded ages man has used prayer in trying to overcome the unwanted conditions in his life. There have been prayers of praise, in the hope that a vain God might answer because He was pleased by the praise. There have been pleading prayers of supplication, through which the one praying has hoped to coax a miracle from a reticent Divine Presence. There have been prayers of vain repetition, in which the asker hoped that if he asked often enough or prayed loudly enough, and apparently inattentive God might finally hear and respond. The teaching of Jesus brought a new technique of prayer to the world; without it we might still be following the ancient ways.
