Description

The first Manual on Alcoholism of the American Medical Association originated as a series of four articles appearing in the Journal in 1956 and 1957. At the suggestion of the Committee on Alcoholism, and with the approval of the Council on Mental Health, these were combined into pamphlet form for distribution to the medical profession. The first edition appeared in 1957, and the second edition, with only minor changes in the text, followed in 1962.
